Milford Sound

A full view of Milford Sound
(Mitre Peak is the pointy mountain on the left)

Mitre Peak
The area we are standing can be covered by water during high tide.

Lady Bowen Falls
(stands 265 feet tall)

Day and overnight boat cruises are popular with both tourists and Kiwis.

Although we did not take a boat cruise through the sound,
we enjoyed a picnic lunch in the park while being eaten alive by sandflies.

The nature walk itself was worth the trip. There are over 60 species of plant life in this area. The picture above shows a small fern growing on the side of a tree and is only about the size of my pinky finger.

We encountered a New Zealand traffic jam on the way back to Te Anau.
